Cyberpunk 2077 is CD PROJEKT RED's single-player RPG set in Night City. You play V, a mercenary drawn into a struggle over survival, power, and identity. The Steam listing presents an open city, quests, combat choices, and character customization rather than a multiplayer service. It is a paid PC game; the Phantom Liberty expansion and any bundle need to be checked separately before purchase. Its attraction is inhabiting a dense futuristic setting while shaping V's approach to missions. Its limitation for some buyers is that it is a long narrative RPG, not an endlessly replayable competitive shooter.
Choose what kind of mercenary V will be
Cyberpunk 2077 lets a player emphasize different combat tools and skills. A direct weapon-heavy approach, stealth, or technology-assisted tactics can change how a mission unfolds. Before investing heavily in upgrades, identify the actions you enjoy repeating. If you prefer getting close to an enemy, equipment and survival choices matter differently than they do for someone who wants to stay hidden and use devices. A build should support your actual play rather than a list of supposedly optimal numbers detached from your preferences.
Use early encounters to learn the limits of your approach. A stealth plan should include a response when an alarm is raised; a direct-fire plan still benefits from cover and an escape path. Inspect equipment descriptions before replacing a useful tool with an item that has a higher headline statistic but a worse fit. The official description highlights choices and consequences, so treat conversations and preparation as part of play, not a delay before combat.
Night City is a setting, not just a map
The game's districts, characters, and side activities make the city central to the experience. Give significant side stories room to develop, but do not feel obliged to clear every map marker before continuing the main plot. A useful rhythm is to follow a major story thread until it introduces a character or location, then explore relevant side jobs nearby. That keeps the narrative understandable while still letting the city offer surprises. If you are short on time, choose missions for their story or build value rather than trying to maximize a completion counter.
Cyberpunk's future is full of corporations, body modifications, and unequal power. Those themes can be as important as the action. Players primarily seeking a relaxed sandbox or collaborative multiplayer should not buy it on the assumption that every open-world game serves the same purpose. Compare Red Dead Redemption 2 for another character-driven open-world story in a very different era; the appeal of each depends heavily on which setting and pace you want.
What to check about Phantom Liberty
The expansion is a separate purchase or part of particular editions according to the current store configuration. Its presence in promotional art does not mean it is included with every base-game purchase. Read the bundle contents and ownership notice before checkout. If you already own the base game, compare the upgrade price with a complete edition; if you are new, decide whether you want to commit to the base story before paying for additional content.
Likewise, screenshots and trailers can show features from different updates. Treat a current Steam listing as the buying reference and avoid relying on a launch-era review for today's feature set. A storefront sale also changes the price without changing the underlying edition. This page intentionally avoids a fixed price because it would become stale across regions and promotions.
Prepare the PC experience
Steam lists the game as single-player and includes controller support. Check the current minimum and recommended PC requirements on the official page, particularly graphics hardware, memory, storage, and any stated drive requirement. The visual ambition of Night City makes hardware fit an important purchase question. We have not benchmarked the game on a particular computer, so do not treat a general description here as a performance guarantee. If your machine is close to a listed minimum, investigate recent measurements for the exact configuration you own.
Once installed, begin with settings you can understand and adjust one graphical option at a time if performance feels poor. Change controls to suit your hands before a long session. Use save points before a choice you especially care about, but accept that a role-playing story gains meaning when not every consequence is immediately undone. Check the current accessibility menu for text and input options relevant to you.
Is it a good fit?
Cyberpunk 2077 makes sense for a player who wants a substantial single-player narrative, a striking city, and flexibility in how V tackles encounters. It is less suitable for someone expecting co-op, short self-contained matches, or a story that explains every consequence in advance. This assessment interprets CD PROJEKT RED's published game information; it is not an assertion that we recently completed a playthrough or measured every system.
The most helpful buying questions are concrete: Does your PC meet the current requirements? Which edition contains the content you want? Would you rather spend time in a dialogue-heavy open city or in a more mechanically focused action loop? Resolve those before treating a promotional image as a purchase decision.
