Phantom Blade Zero PC Setup Guide: SSD Space and Graphics Targets

Check Windows, SSD space, upscaling and the official minimum, recommended, ray-tracing and path-tracing hardware targets.

Phantom Blade Zero PC Setup Guide: SSD Space and Graphics Targets artwork

Before installing Phantom Blade Zero on PC, check three things: your Windows version, your SSD space and the performance target that matches your graphics card. S-GAME's published system requirements specify 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD. Steam lists 145 GB of available storage. These are concrete requirements, while a trailer's visual quality is not a promise that every PC will produce the same frame rate.

Choose a target before changing settings

The minimum examples are an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with a GTX 1660 6 GB or RX 5500 XT 8 GB. S-GAME associates that tier with 1080p at 30 fps using upscaling. The recommended examples are an i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X with an RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or RX 6700 XT 12 GB, targeting 1440p at 60 fps with upscaling. Both tiers call for 16 GB of RAM. These are examples from the developer, not a comprehensive compatibility list or a guarantee for every combination of components.

Start by choosing the tier nearest your hardware. If the game feels inconsistent, reduce the most demanding visual options before sacrificing readability or controls. Change one major setting at a time and check the same scene again, so you can tell what helped. The official requirements do not provide a universal preset or benchmark database; exact results will also depend on drivers, background tasks, display resolution and updates.

Understand ray tracing and path tracing separately

S-GAME lists an RTX 5060 8 GB example for 1080p/60 fps with ray tracing and upscaling, and an RTX 5080 16 GB example for 2160p/60 fps with path tracing and upscaling. Those targets are much more demanding than the base minimum. The studio's Pangzhen reveal also discusses ray tracing and DLSS 4, but those visual features should not be mistaken for requirements to play the base game. If your GPU is close to the minimum tier, first make the core game stable before attempting the most expensive lighting options.

Do not assume all upscaling or frame-generation options are available on every GPU. The exact menu depends on hardware, driver and game build. Check the live settings in your installation and the current vendor documentation. The Steam detail page lists the game's platform and broad features; its live store page is the final place to verify the latest requirements before purchase.

Leave room for installation and updates

Steam's store requirement is 145 GB available space and an SSD. In its official preload notice, S-GAME advised reserving at least 300 GB free for that particular preload process and updating graphics drivers. That higher figure was a preparation recommendation for preload, not a claim that the installed game permanently occupies 300 GB. Still, an almost-full drive can make downloads and updates difficult. Confirm that the selected Steam library is on an SSD and has additional working room before starting a large install.

If Steam reports insufficient space, check the library drive rather than only the system drive. Do not delete unrelated files blindly; move a game through Steam's own storage management if you need room. If a new patch changes the download size, follow the current Steam estimate. The game's beginner combat guide can help once the technical setup is done, but performance tuning should be evaluated separately from combat difficulty.

FAQ

Is an HDD enough?

No. S-GAME and Steam both specify an SSD. Installing to an HDD would fall outside the published requirements, even if the drive has enough free capacity.

Does 145 GB mean I only need exactly 145 GB free?

That is Steam's listed storage requirement, not a promise about temporary download or patch space. S-GAME advised 300 GB free for preload. Keep working room beyond the installed size and check Steam's current download estimate.

Is there native macOS or Linux support?

The current Steam platform field lists Windows, not macOS or Linux. Do not infer official support from a third-party compatibility experiment. Check the live store page for any later change.
