Phantom Blade Zero Weapons and Phantom Edges: A Flexible Loadout Guide

Understand the two-main-weapon and two-Phantom-Edge setup, then choose tools by range, recovery and the problem a fight presents.

Phantom Blade Zero offers more than thirty primary weapons and over twenty Phantom Edges according to its current Steam description. S-GAME's first gameplay breakdown explains that Soul can equip two main weapons and two Phantom Edges. Those numbers are useful, but they do not tell you which combination will solve a fight. A better starting question is what each slot contributes: dependable range, a safe follow-up, or a tool for an opening that your main weapon cannot exploit well. This guide explains how to evaluate a loadout without inventing a best-in-slot ranking.

Separate the jobs of main weapons and Phantom Edges

The official first gameplay material describes main weapons as a broad melee-and-ranged arsenal, while Phantom Edges are less conventional weapons found throughout the world. The Steam description says the latter are taken from defeated foes. That suggests two different planning jobs. Choose a main weapon for the attacks you expect to use repeatedly, and judge a Phantom Edge by the specific tactical option it adds. Do not assume every Phantom Edge is simply a stronger replacement for a primary weapon; the developer presents it as a way to broaden expression and combo choices.

When trying a newly acquired item, compare it against the one you already understand. How far away can you begin an attack? Does the animation leave you committed for longer? Can you still respond to an enemy's next strike after your usual follow-up? These are questions to test in play, not values the official store listing publishes. Make the comparison against a familiar enemy before committing to a boss encounter. A striking animation is not evidence that an item is safer or deals more damage in every situation.

Give the second slot a different purpose

With two main-weapon slots, carrying two tools that answer the same problem may leave a gap elsewhere. Consider one familiar close-range option and one that helps when distance, enemy movement or recovery makes the first awkward. The exact pairing depends on what you have unlocked and how the current weapon behaves. S-GAME has not published a complete official table of reach, damage, scaling or upgrade paths on its public game page, so this article does not label a specific sword or Phantom Edge “the strongest.”

The same principle applies to the two Phantom Edge slots. If one helps start an engagement, ask whether the other offers a different kind of follow-up rather than stacking two visually similar attacks. Test each tool alone first. Once you know what it does, add it to a short sequence and watch whether Soul can recover before the enemy acts. If a sequence only works on a passive target, treat it as a situational combo, not an all-purpose opener.

Change equipment for a reason, not for novelty

Before changing a loadout, name the problem: too little reach, poor control against multiple enemies, or an unsafe recovery against a boss. Then change one slot and retry. This keeps the result interpretable. If you replace all four slots at once, a better outcome does not reveal which choice helped. Conversely, a failed attempt does not prove all new items are weak. The game's dodge, deflect and counter options are still part of the solution; changing gear cannot substitute for recognizing an attack pattern.

Our beginner combat guide focuses on those defensive decisions. The Steam detail page explains the game and PC requirements. Browse Steam action games if you are comparing different approaches to action combat, but do not assume their weapon systems work identically.

Frequently asked questions

Can I equip every unlocked weapon at once?

The official gameplay explanation specifies two equipped main weapons and two equipped Phantom Edges. The larger advertised collection is a pool to choose from, not four dozen simultaneous combat slots. Check the in-game inventory for how the current version handles swapping and upgrades.

Does a Phantom Edge replace my main weapon?

S-GAME describes both categories as equipped at the same time, with different roles in combat. A Phantom Edge is not presented as a mandatory replacement for a main weapon. Its practical value depends on the encounter and the rest of your loadout.
