Phantom Blade Zero Seven Stars Boss Guide: Reading Both Phases

Use S-GAME's unedited Seven Stars footage to distinguish group assaults from the puppet-like second phase and plan safer retries.

Phantom Blade Zero Seven Stars Boss Guide: Reading Both Phases artwork

The Seven Stars Sword Formation is one of Phantom Blade Zero's best-documented boss encounters because S-GAME released an unedited combat sequence in its Year of the Snake trailer. The developer describes seven swordsmen alternating between coordinated group assaults and individual strikes. In the second phase, surviving disciples suspend and manipulate their leader with red strings, making his movement more erratic. That gives players a reliable two-part framework for learning the encounter. The trailer does not publish every current-build damage value, exact parry window or reward, so treat the advice below as a pattern-reading guide rather than a guaranteed script.

First phase: read the formation, not one swordsman

The official description says the group can move as one. If you focus only on the nearest attacker, a second swordsman may still be mid-sequence when you start an attack. Spend an early attempt watching how a coordinated assault begins and when the entire group has finished, rather than assuming the first visible pause is a safe opening. Move only as far as needed to keep the formation in view. When you identify a repeatable end to the sequence, answer with a short counter that leaves time to react again.

S-GAME also says the swordsmen switch between group and individual strikes. Those are different situations. A single attacker appearing exposed does not necessarily mean the whole formation has stopped. If your chosen punish keeps getting interrupted, shorten it before changing weapons or difficulty. A smaller reliable opening is more valuable than a longer combo that only works when the remaining swordsmen stay idle. This is an observation strategy derived from the described encounter, not a claim that every strike has a fixed number of beats.

Second phase: reset your timing expectations

The developer calls the puppet-like second phase harder to anticipate. The leader is suspended by crimson threads and moves erratically. Do not carry the first phase's rhythm into the transition as if it were the same attack with a different visual effect. Use the first moments of the phase to watch a full sequence. Look for the point where the leader has truly finished moving before committing to a counter. If a dodge or deflect worked earlier but fails now, the changed motion may be the reason; revise the timing rather than repeating the same input more aggressively.

The official trailer says victory requires observation and exploiting openings. It does not prove that a single weapon, Phantom Edge or difficulty setting is required. The loadout guide offers a method for testing whether a different reach or recovery helps, and our combat guide explains how to isolate a defensive mistake. Change one factor at a time so the next attempt teaches you something.

A practical retry checklist

  1. Identify whether the hit came from a group assault or an individual strike.
  2. Watch the full end of the sequence before attacking.
  3. Use a shorter counter if a long one is interrupted.
  4. After the phase change, observe a new sequence before reusing first-phase timing.
  5. Only then test a different weapon reach or defensive response.

The checklist is intentionally about decisions you can verify in the game. It does not promise an exact boss position, health threshold or item reward that the official footage does not establish. For the game's broader premise and platform information, visit Phantom Blade Zero on YouxiSky.

Questions players ask

Is the puppet leader a separate boss?

S-GAME presents it as the second phase of the Seven Stars Sword Formation encounter. The surviving disciples manipulate their leader after the initial formation fight. The footage does not require you to interpret it as a separate stage with a new purchase or a different game mode.

Can I rely on a video for exact parry timing?

Use the official sequence to recognize the two phases and attack shapes, but learn timing from your installed game version and display conditions. A trailer cannot guarantee identical input windows after updates or across hardware and settings.
